What does today's subject have to do with business? Everything. Health falls into all aspects of our life and without good health, you can not have a sustainable or successful life. Dr. Angela Tran has a remarkable story of breaking free and creating her own journey outside of the traditional medical field.

It all started by seeing sick patient after sick patient who had obesity-related illnesses. Burnt out and feeling helpless, Dr. Tran knew there was a better way to help educate her fast-paced patients who simply weren't taking care of themselves.

Now, she is the CEO of Med-Fit, a physician-supervised weight loss program designed to help patients achieve "medical fitness" through nutrition and exercise counseling. Dr. Tran offers helpful advice for the Mindfluence listeners out there who might not be putting their health first and foremost. Life is a gift and you're only holding yourself back by not optimally taking care of it.

Key Takeaways:

[3:05] Good health is one of the contributing factors to a successful life.

[3:35] Why is health important for busy on-the-go professionals?

[8:00] Dr. Tran was burnt out and tired of seeing the same health problems caused by obesity.

[10:00] Dr. Tran hated that she was just prescribing medication after medication.

[13:25] If you're health isn't in great shape, you're holding yourself back.

[13:55] Life is really a gift.

[17:15] If you have a leadership role or if you're taking care of others, you have to take care of yourself first.

[18;30] When you're making a big transition in your life, just know that the world is your classroom. You don't have to backtrack.

[19:15] What advice does Dr. Tran have for other doctors or caretakers out there?

[21:15] What kind of health challenges does Dr. Tran's clients face?
[26:20] Don't be afraid to expand your mind and get out of your comfort zone.

[30:00] Who are you and where do you want to go?

[31:30] How can busy people get into a healthy routine?

[34:30] If you put your mind to it, life has all the resources available to get to where you want to go.

How do you deal with problems and challenges? Do you attack them directly or are you more cautious? What about rules and procedures? Are you more independent with a wiliness to break boundaries or do you focus on what's the right way to accomplish a task? There are no right or wrong answers to these questions, only understanding. If you've ever been confused by someone's actions and what drives them, then this is an episode you surely do not want to miss. Dr. Matthew and Bruce give you insightful tools to better understand those who seem almost impossible, unruly or difficult to manage.

Key Takeaways:

[1:00] How do you deal with problems or challenges?

[4:20] Do you have issues? Are you a 'work in progress'?

[4:50] You don't necessarily have to fix all the 'work in progress' stuff.

[5:50] Be sure to check out the diagrams Dr. Matthew and Bruce refer to in the show notes.

[6:55] Dr. Matthew does a recap of what 'core motivators' are.

[7:20] Core motivators tell us why we do what we do.

[7:50] Behavior styles, which is the topic of today's discussion, tell us how we move towards our core motivators.

[8:45] Let's take a look at The Success Wheel diagram. Dr. Matthew provides an overview on each of the four behavior quadrants.

[11:30] 45-50% of the US population is a S behavior style.

[11:50] How can we apply this in a business setting?

[15:35] Remember, there's nothing that's particularly right or wrong in these behavioral assessment charts. Think of these as a tool to get better insights as to who you are and who you work with.

[19:30] This report is based off of 40 years of research.

[20:30] When you understand what people are naturally good at, you're able to put them in the right company position.

[21:45] People can adapt to new positions. However, the further away they are pulled from their natural style, the more stressed they become.

[24:35] The higher people are on the D quadrant, the shorter the fuse. These people get triggered easily.

[24:55] The primary emotion for I is optimism.

[25:40] People who are on the S quadrant don't show their emotions as easily as all the others.

[26:25] The primary emotion for people in the C quadrant is fear. The primary fear for C is criticism of their work.

[27:25] The primary fear for D is being taken advantage of.

[27:50] The primary fear for the I is social rejection.

[29:05] The primary fear for S is loss of security.

[29:50] What are the needs for each of these quadrants?

[31:45] The best way to describe these charts is that they are a behavioral language. They help decode a lot of the mystery behind why someone acts the way they do.

[33:15] How do each of these quadrants act when they're stressed? Dr. Matthew does a quick breakdown.

[35:05] In the diagram, there's a circle and a star. What does that mean?

[37:20] What does the Style Insights diagram mean?

[41:30] How does all of this come together?

[42:15] Without knowing this information before you hire, you're actually working at a disadvantage.

[45:05] For the challenge of the week, join both Dr. Matthew and Bruce on their webinar. It is absolutely free.
