Mark Sanborn is the author of The Fred Factor, both a NY Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. Fred was a mailman in Mark's neighborhood who took what others considered a simple and boring task and made it extraordinary. Mark learned four important principles from Fred that he shares with us in today's episode with Dr. Matthew.

Key Takeaways:

[2:35] Mark talks about the first Fred he has ever met.

[3:40] Fred impressed Mark so much that he wrote a book about him titled: The Fred Factor.

[4:10] The premise to Mark's book is that nobody can prevent you from being extraordinary.

[5:05] Everybody makes a difference. The only question is what kind of difference?

[6:45] Sometimes passion isn't enough. You need to have a process on how you get things done.

[8:25] We can create a transaction and then turn it into a connection with other people. Mark explains further.

[9:35] The ability for your employees to connect with others is what builds customer loyalty.

[11:30] You can add value to anything you do and it won't cost you a dime.

[14:15] Customers need three As: Attention, Acknowledgment, and Action.

[17:45] What are you doing differently from everyone else?

[19:45] Now that you are successful, are you still having fun?

[23:20] Methods that worked 20 years ago, might not work today. You have to constantly reinvent yourself.

[24:15] Although reflection is difficult, it needs to happen in order for you to grow.

[29:45] Mark has learned a lot from just sitting down at a bar and talking to bartenders.

[30:25] Closing thoughts: always ask, 'How can I help?'

[32:40] Mark blogs weekly and provides a lot of information for free. Visit his website for more!

[33:25] Challenge of the week: pay greater attention on how you interact with your team/clients/family and be more present with each person.
